Head coach Owais Shah and the team management will decide the captain of the Dambulla Viiking team in the Lanka Premier League (LPL), according to Roscoe Thattil, the team’s Communications and Media Manager. Dasun Shanaka was believed to be the captain.
“He is our icon player and we have not yet named him the captain. He may still be announced as captain but the final decision will be taken by the head coach in consultation with the team management”, Thattil, speaking exclusively over the telephone from Hambantota said.
Dasun Shanka was in the training squad with the national coaching staff and he along with other LPL players are on their way to Hambantota.
“We have a number of options in our squad to pick a leader from. That is always a good thing but we are yet to finalize who our captain will be. I want to have a couple of training sessions with guys before appointing the leader of our squad”, the coach has said in a question & answer session with the media manager.
Thattil also confirmed that the management is in consultation with the few players and the final squad will be finalized in a day or two.
As reported earlier, Kamran Akmal has pulled out. The communications manager also added that all their players are in good spirit and raring to go.
“Our players will begin training sessions from Monday”. Dale Steyn
Kandy Tuskers team management is in consultation with Dale Steyn, the right arm fast bowler. The 37-year-fast bowler, who retired from international cricket last year, is likely to play for the Kandy team. New Jersey Design of the Jaffna Stallions players was made in the USA, it is learnt here.
“We are launching the players’ jersey tomorrow”, the team’s Communications official Saranga Wijeyarathne said over the telephone from Sri Lanka. “The players’ jerseys are manufactured in Sri Lanka”, he further added.
