Punjab Inspector General of Police Inam Ghani on Friday said that minority citizens living in all districts of the province and followers of other religions are the beauty of Pakistani society whose protection, service and immediate resolution of their problems are among the top priorities of Punjab Police.
IG Police Inam Ghani expressed the views during a meeting with a delegation of Pakistan Minority Commission led by former IG Dr Shoaib Suddle along with MNA Dr Ramesh Kumar at Central Police Office here.
He said that the Punjab Police are maintaining the standard of recruitment for minorities in government jobs under the quota for minorities and recruitment of minority citizens on all the allotted seats would be ensured. He directed the Additional IG CTD to conduct re-survey of minority places of worship in all Punjab districts including churches, temples, gurdwaras and other places of worship including Ahmadi places of worship and further improve security arrangements in the light of survey reports.
The IGP said that DPOs themselves are active in preventing crime against minorities and action is being taken against the culprits involved in such crimes on priority basis. He further said that those who force the minority workers to bonded labor at kilns do not deserve any concession and efforts would be made to protect the rights of the minorities by taking action against them.
Talking to reporters during the meeting, Dr. Shoaib Suddle said that timely action of Punjab Police in incidents involving minorities in Sheikhupura and Bahawalpur was satisfactory while other districts should also work with the same spirit. He further said that they should be provided necessary guidance and assistance in the recruitment of minorities under the quota in government jobs so that they could progress along with other nations in their careers.
Dr Ramesh Kumar while addressing the meeting said that minorities are useful members of society whose potential should be utilized in every possible way. He further said that steps are being taken in Punjab to protect the rights of minority citizens.
Meanwhile, IG Police Inam Ghani said that co-operation among universities, colleges and public and private institutions is needed to promote education and research and formulate new policies for resolving administrative and social problems.
The IGP was talking to a Punjab University delegation led by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmed Akhtar. On the occasion, Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was also signed between the Research and Development Branch of Punjab Police and Institute of Social and Cultural Studies Punjab University to improve evidence-based services of the police and establish its initiatives on a research basis. IGP Inam Ghani and Vice Chancellor Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar signed a memorandum of understanding in this regard.
The IG Police said that for the purpose Punjab Police is launching an internship program very soon to provide practical experience and learning opportunities to the students under which the university students will conduct research in different police offices for eight weeks for their projects and he opportunity of internship will be provided so that they not only get acquainted with the office matters but also give recommendations and suggestions based on their observation regarding the improvement in operational procedures.
