The Islamabad Policy Research Institute (IPRI) hosted a webinar titled “India’s Subversive Tactics in Pakistan: Myth of Ahimsa Exposed” on 17th November. In response to the dossier presented by Pakistan, containing irrefutable evidence on Indian-sponsored terrorism on Pakistani soil, the webinar was organized with an aim to discuss India’s subversive activities in political, socio-economic domains in Pakistan and further introspect Pakistan’s diplomatic options in respect to the findings of the dossier.
IPRI featured diverse and expert analysis from a distinguished panel, including Ms. Carin Jodha Fischer- German/ American Political and Social Activist exiled by the BJP regime in 2016, Dr. Salma Malik- Assistant Professor at the Department of Defence and Strategic Studies, Quaid- EAzam University, Islamabad, and Ambassador (R) Asif Durrani, Senior Research Fellow IPRI.
Building on the findings of the dossier, Carin Fischer shared her first-hand experiences of Hindu nationalism, including systemic demographic changes in Indian tribal areas. She urged think tanks, such as IPRI, to keep compiling facts on Indian-state sponsored terrorism. Dr. Salma Malik proffered an academic perspective, citing historical evidence, as old as the 1971 civil war and ethnic unrest in Karachi in 1990s, of Indian attempts to destabilize Pakistan. Referring to India’s Military/Strategic doctrines, Dr. Salma explained how India has been employing diplomatic maneuvers, economic subversion, and regional civil society activists against Pakistan. Ambassador(R) Asif Durrani continued to discuss the ramifications the dossier would have on the Indian international standing.
The webinar concluded with question/answer session. Upon asked to discuss Pakistan’s diplomatic options, Ambassador (R) Asif Durrani mentioned that the country which claimed to be a harbinger of democracy and human rights is itself harboring terrorism. While the diplomatic options for Pakistan are limited, counselling at the international fora must be pushed forward.
