Administrator and Commissioner Karachi Iftikhar Shallwani has said that for development in the education sector, it is necessary to imitate such personalities who have set a shining example in the world of knowledge and practice.

Shallwani expressed these views in the presence of locals and teachers and students in Clifton Block 2 on Mondaywhile attributing a road at Kayaban-e- Saadi to Sister Berkmans, a person who has rendered excellent services in teaching in various cities of the country.
On the occasion of the attribution, it should be noted that the Karachi Metropolitan Municipality had formally approved on October 21, 2020 to name this road after the eminent educationist Sister Berkmins. In a ceremony held in recognition of services for It was announced that the move would be in accordance with Sections 85 and 86 of the Sindh Local Government Act, 2013, in order to provide significant services to the country in the name of places and routes within its boundaries.
Inaugurating the road as Berchmans Road under this resolution of the Karachi Metropolitan Municipality, Administrator Karachi Iftikhar Shalawani while mentioning the career of Sister Berkmans and her educational services said that Sister Berkmans was born on the island in 1929 and joined the Convent of Jesus and Mary School in 1951. She came to Pakistan in 1953 at the age of 24 and spent most of her academic career in Pakistan during which she spent about 60 years. Till she has been teaching in Karachi, Lahore and Murree till date and also served as the Principal of CJMS. To the Government of Pakistan for his excellent services He was also awarded the Star of Quaid-e-Azam in 2012.
Later, while laying foundation of beautification of bridge at Teen Hatti area, Shalawani said that the beautification of three bridges connecting Shahrah-e-Pakistan with Jahangir Road and installation of tiles on the sidewalks including strengthening of safety grills on both sides has given a new and beautiful look to the place.
On the occasion, Director General Works and Services Shabiha Al Hassan Zaidi, concerned engineers and other staff were also present on the occasion.
He Inspected the ongoing road construction work on the road and directed that the work be completed as soon as possible. He also directed to construct sidewalks along the road and remove all encroachments on the sides, garbage piles on the road.
Taking note of the situation, the Administrator and Commissioner Karachi directed to contact the Solid Waste Management Board and pick up the garbage. Giving a briefing on the occasion, Director General Works and Services Shabiha Al-Hassan Zaidi said that the excavation was carried out on SM Tawfiq Road due to a water board pipeline sitting, after which this part of the road became unusable.
