IIU, two departments of NUTECH sealed after emergence of Covid-19 cases Islamabad registers highest single-day count of new Coronavirus cases

The district administration of Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) and the health department on Friday sealed the International Islamic University (IIU) and two departments (Mechanical & Computer Science departments) of the National University of Technology (NUTECH) after emergence of new coronavirus cases.
The IIU is being sealed for the second time. Earlier, it was sealed in October when a couple of Coronavirus cases were reported there.
According to the District Health Officer (DHO) Dr Zaeem Zia, five university employees and 7 students were reported to be infected with Covid-19 thus prompting the authorities to take a quick action and seal the university.
A thorough disinfection campaign of various departments has also been directed along with testing of Coronavirus, said the DHO.
This is the second time the IIU is being sealed. Earlier the university was closed down last month on Oct 27 when Coronavirus cases were reported there.
The DHO has also directed putting into quarantine all those hostel residents who are tested positive with Covid-19 till recovery and their contacts must be quarantined in a separate isolation area.
The federal capital on Friday reported the highest single-day number of new cases of Coronavirus, i.e. 273 in a period of twenty-four hours. This is first time that this highest number is reported n last two months from Islamabad.
With this latest figure the total number of infected cases in the federal capital is 20,967 while with two casualties the number of deaths stands at 231.
A total of 5,740 tests were conducted in the federal capital to ascertain the number of coronavirus cases in one day while the positivity rate has jumped to 4.75%, said the District Health Officer Dr Zaeem Zia.
Meanwhile, Minister for Planning, Development & Special Initiative Asad Umar in a tweet said the as the world was struggling with Covid-19, Pakistan’s economy is on path to recovery. We have registered strong export growth, positive large scale manufacturing growth, revenues up. Besides, big electricity price cut for industry will further accelerate industrial growth particularly for Small & Medium Enterprises (SMEs).
