The alleged negligence of the Sindh government’s Food Department has destroyed wheat, worth billions of rupees during rains.
According to details, the Sindh Food Department had already delayed the procurement of wheat after the wheat crop was ready in March and had also banned the purchase of wheat by ordinary traders.
Sources have informed that after the late purchase of wheat, it was not stored in proper places and were placed in open-air warehouses at various places on the national highway. Despite the rain forecast, the Sindh Food Department did not save the wheat and the wheat, which is said to be worth billions of rupees, rotted and reportedly stinks.
“There is no arrangement for the safety of millions of sacks in various open places. The reason for the wheat crisis in the country, including Sindh, is that the Sindh government did not take any notice of the negligence”, sources added.
Earlier, Police have thwarted a bid to smuggle wheat from Sindh to Punjab by taking six trailers carrying the cargo in its custody.
Sangi police station SHO Sanaullah said on a tip-off, police foiled a bid of smuggling thousands of maund wheat to Punjab last and taken six trailers carrying the cargo into custody.
The police official further said the trailers with wheat cargo have been handed over to the food department for necessary action.
