The goverment on Saturday slammed the opposition-led PDM for targeting the country’s institutions during the first rally of its anti-government campaign in Gujranwala. They warned the alliance against playing a “dangerous game.”
Addressing a press conference alongside Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry, Information Minister Shibli Faraz said that the opposition was causing harm to the country by targeting national institutions. “You are causing the country a lot of harm [and] are using the language of our enemies which is something we will not allow you to do. We stand behind our institutions and will not tolerate any such comment which will endanger our security or the people that stand for it,” he said.
Shibli Faraz remarked that the opposition had staged a “flop show with empty chairs” that failed to display unity and solidarity.
The minister said it was reprehensible how the opposition leaders were speaking about the country’s respected national institutions.
“Opposition leaders have used such derogatory language, especially Bilawal Bhutto and Kh Asif. Bilawal Bhutto, this wasn’t expected from you as your mother was a respected lady politician of the country,” he said.
The minister went on to add that the Jamiat Ulema-Islam-F leader was again “sidelined” and was betrayed when he was made to address empty chairs at 2:00 am.
Fawad Chaudhry said Prime Minister Imran Khan had already predicted in November 2011, that all parties being held accountable for corruption in the country will be united once an action is taken against them.
Reacting to Nawaz Sharif’s address, Chaudhry taunted him by saying that the PML-N supremo is acting like an “upset lover”.
“The way Nawaz is complaining about the Pakistan Army, seems like he has forgotten the time when the army had pampered him during the 1980s”, Chaudhry said. He suggested that opposition parties should cancel their next PDM demonstrations “given the poor participation from the public”.
