The girls’ hostel at Peshawar’s Khyber Medical College (KMC) has been sealed for two weeks after four students tested positive for the Coronavirus, a spokesperson for the college said.
The students, who started exhibiting symptoms two days ago, were quarantined in Khyber Teaching Hospital.
After the four cases, the college administration also collected samples of 198 other girl students and staff for testing, whose results are awaited.
Test samples will also be taken of the 400-500 residents and staff of the boys’ hostel at the college today, according to the spokesperson.
Meanwhile, Pakistan has reported 8 deaths in last 24 hours by novel coronavirus as the number of positive cases has surged to 313,984. The nationwide tally of fatalities has jumped to 6,507 on Saturday.
According to the latest figures by the National Command and Operation Center 553 persons have been tested positive for Covid-19 in 24 hours.
Till now 137,783 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Sindh, 99,665 in Punjab, 37,908 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 16,713 in Islamabad, 15,323 in Balochistan, 2,776 in Azad Kashmir and 3,816 in Gilgit-Baltistan.
Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir have collectively reported 93 coronavirus cases and two deaths during the last 24 hours.
Punjab has reported 60 coronavirus cases and one death. The provincial total has risen to 99,665 while the death toll is 2,238.
And 267 new cases of the coronavirus have been confirmed in Sindh, taking the provincial tally to 138,050, according to Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.
Three more people lost their lives from the virus, with Sindh’s overall death toll rising to 2,520.
A total of 146 restaurants and nine marriage halls have been sealed in Karachi due to violations of coronavirus standard operating procedures over the last three days, according to data released by the Karachi commissioner’s office.
The administration also closed four schools in the city’s South district as well as 10 shops and factories for not complying with the health guidelines.
Fines worth nearly one million rupees were also imposed on various establishments across the city, the data showed.
