The Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) conducted special cleanliness operation in the North Lahore to ensure timely lifting of waste and to clear the back log. The department deployed extra machinery from its limited resources and lifts more than 10,000 tons of waste during 48 hours. Residents of North Lahore are facing sanitation problems due to breach of contract by Turkish contractor M/s. Albayrak.
The non-availability of 40% of the machinery of the Turkish contractor M/s. Albayrak has severely affected the cleanliness operation in the north Lahore.
Despite several notices, M/s. Albayrak has failed to bring all of its machinery into the field, and the LWMC has decided to take legal action for its lack of seriousness in improving the sanitation situation. LWMC has paid billions of rupees to the M/s. Albayrak over the past eight years. In this regard, CEO LWMC stated that “to maintain cleanliness in the city is our top most priority” and in this regard the department is working day and night. The LWMC has conducted special cleanliness operations in the M/s. Albayrak area of responsibility with its limited resources.
The complaints of the citizens are being addressed on priority basis, he added. He further said that the affected areas of North Lahore would also be made zero waste in the next 48 hours.
Furthermore, spokesperson LWMC briefed that all the resources are being utilized by the organization in cleaning the city. Citizens are appealed to cooperate with the department. In-case of any waste related complaint citizens can use LWMC helpline 1139 or mobile application Clean Lahore.
