Sri Lanka’s former fast bowler Pramodya Wickramsinghe is likely to be the national selector. The former right arm fast bowler’s name was discussed and approved at the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) board’s EX-co meeting, which was held last week.
“His name has been sent to the Sports Ministry for the approval. Once it is approved, he will be the 4th selector in the panel”, the source, speaking exclusively over telephone from Colombo, said. “Yes, his consent was sought before sending it to the ministry”.
Interestingly, it is not a new role for Wickramasinghe. The 49-year-old bowler, who played 40 Tests and 134 ODIs, had already been on this seat on two other previous occasions.
Pramodya Wickramsinghe’s name, if approved, will join the national panel with other three selectors Ashantha De Mel (chairman), Vinothen John and Chaminda Mendis.
The tenure for the present selectors ended on August 5.
The new panel will now have three fast bowlers and only Mendis as a batsman and an occasional off-spinner.
