5-day deadline given for uprooting wild grass from residential areas, parks

Chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Chief Commissioner of Islamabad Amer Ali Ahmed has directed the Islamabad Administration to coordinate with Environment and Sanitation Wings of Metropolitan Corporation of Islamabad (MCI) and concerned formations of the CDA for removal of wild bushes / vegetation from residential sectors of Islamabad as well as along the roads and from parks.The chief commissioner has given five-day time, the current week, for completion of this task. This seasonal grass has grown in abundance in various areas of Islamabad and the recent rains have contributed to their excessive growth.While chairing a high-level meeting, the CDA chairman also asked the city’s administrative and municipal affairs’ heads to focus on overall cleanliness of the federal capital in connection with ongoing clean and green campaign. In this regard, said the chairman of the CDA, funds have been allocated by the CDA for repair / maintenance of machinery of Environment Wing while Assistant Commissioners have been directed to ensure cleanliness, removal of wild growth from their respective areas as well as issue notices and impose fine on the elements involved in littering.
Later, while talking to Pakistan Observer, spokesperson for the CDA said strict instructions have been issued that the task of removal of wild growth from the parks, sectoral areas, green belts, along the avenues and from all over the city must be completed within the five days.
It is pertinent to mention here that Islamabad Administration, CDA and MCI are to work jointly to improve overall cleanliness of the city, removal of wild growth and action against the elements involve in the littering.
While talking to Pakistan Observer, a number of motorists complained they could not drive their vehicles smoothly because of the wild grass covering one-third of the roads of the federal capital.
This is not only irritating but quite alarming as it can cause accidents at any time, said Umar, a motorcyclist living in G-9/3 sector.
Machinery and Staff has been deputed at Kashmir Highway, Muree Road, Kashmir Chowk, Pakistan Monument, Zero Point, Faisal Avenue, Margalla Road, Constitution Avenue for removal of wild growth, tree plantation and plantation of seasonal flowers.
It is observed that coordinated efforts are required to keep city neat and clean and it is expected that all departments will collaborate with each other for making Islamabad neat and clean in true sense.
