Cotton can give major head start in country’s agro economy: Fakhar

The 88th Meeting of Pakistan Central Cotton Committee was chaired by Federal Minister For National Food Security and Research, Syed Fakhar Imam on Thursday.
He said that cotton can give a major headstart in country’s agro economy. He added that we need to identify 48000 tonnes of verified cotton seed for better yield.
He was of the point of view that Finance Division has released funds for the White Fly Pesticide subsidy.
The quantum of this subsidy is Rs. 6 billion. The provinces will disburse this subsidy to registered growers.
During the meeting appointment of full-flagged Chief Executive Officer and appointment of critical scientific posts was discussed.
These posts will result in betterment of PCCC. The administrative issues of Cotton Research Stations, Bahawalpur and Sahiwal were also discussed.
The budget for next year was approved by the chair. It was also told that 62 scientists are working for improving the quality of cotton.
