The senate standing committee for SAFRON (Ministry of States and Frontier regions) meeting held at Zero point Torkham on Monday where issues pertaining to Pak-Afghan trade discussed, Chairman standing committee Senator Taj Muhamamd was chairing the meeting.
This important session of senate standing committee took place with the two point agenda of the further consideration of Suo Moto notice taken by the chairman standing committee on states and frontier regions regarding complaints received from various sectors about the difficulties being facing by the traders, transporters and custom clearance agents at Torkham border.
The second agenda point was any other important point or issue with the permission of chairman and it would also be come under discussion during this important meeting.
The chairman of senate standing committee on SAFRON was found as disappointed over the poor performance of various institutions and urged the officials that we could save Pakistan by promoting business sectors and provide best facilities to traders at border.
The officials of various government institutions informed the senate committee members that due to Corona virus pandemic, the trade activities at Pak Afghan border suffered and the transporters were also facing some difficulties due to ongoing construction work on Torkham terminal.
The officials of government institutions ensured the chairman of senate standing committee that soon the construction work on terminal would be completed and the Pak Afghan trade would be restored as like the previous years.
Dr.Saeed Jadoon, the member of FBR ensured the senate committee members that they have made all necessary arrangements to boost trade activities from next week.
Weight of Afghan transit trade vehicles will be processed at Jamrud to avoid the trafficjam at Torkham. He stated.
Later, talking to local media men, Taj Muhammad Afridi said that the main objective of the senate standing committee session at Zero point was to identify and discuss various issues and difficulties of traders with the concern state institution and its officials.
