Is this democracy?
Claiming that it enjoys full support of military establishment, the PTI government wants the opposition, particularly PML (N) and PPP, to support its policies without any questioning. Offers by the opposition of resolving the differences through talks are rejected out of hand as attempts to seek an NRO. Ignoring that opposition had recently joined hands with government to pass a number of laws as required by FATF, the opposition’s refusal to support arrest without warrant was termed by the PM as an attempt to harm the country and to get NRO.
The opposition maintains that law proposed by the government will give it dictatorial powers. The two major opposition parties are meanwhile being pushed to the wall. Government has turned parliamentary democracy into a quasi-presidential system by inducting unelected advisors and assistants into the Cabinet and relying more on promulgating ordinances rather than passing laws. The PTI MNAs meanwhile continue to poison the atmosphere in the National Assembly through provocative speeches and recourse to unparliamentarily remarks leading to frequent protests and walkouts.
This provides the opposition temptations to take the matter to streets. Lack of flexibility in the PTI government is however likely to give birth to an MRD-like united front to give a tough time to government outside Parliament also. When driven to wall, opposition parties tend to unite despite mutual suspicions and strong differences on a single point: PTI govt ouster!

Historical package
Once called city of lights, Karachi is economic hub of Pakistan. Due to lack of attention Karachi is facing many problems like shortage of potable water, solid waste management, shortage of electricity and recent flood like conditions that have pushed Karachi more backward. Karachi needs proper attention to resolve all these issues.
The package announced by PM Imran Khan the other day is really appreciable and it is a historic package for Karachi. It may change fate of the city, if executed with honesty of purpose, as it will help out Karachi to grow again. The package must be used properly and there should be strict checks and balances in order to make sure funds are used wisely.

Shame on Maharashtra govt
Kudos to Republic TV, Times Now, and other television news channels for investigating the deaths of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput and his business manager, Disha Salian which the Mumbai police and the Maharashtra government run by Uddhav Thackeray failed to do and claimed them as suicide.
The Mumbai police were not even willing to investigate the deaths and were shielding the culprits. They were not even ready to hand over the probe to Patna police (Sushant’s hometown) or the CBI. Now that the CBI has stepped in, everything has come to light especially drugs part. The Mumbai police have indeed gained a bad name because Sushant Singh Rajput’s fans are all over the world.

No fear of Covid-19
Since lockdown has finished, public has felt as though Corona Virus has vanished from the world. There is no fear among people as they say that the pandemic is gone. They are of the opinion that it was just a drama scripted by government about the spread and existence of Covid-19. Resultantly, people do not follow any rule suggested by government and health department. The condition in rural area is more alarming where people are less conscious about issues related to health and hygiene.
However, people have stopped and shun the habit of using sanitizers, wearing masks and gloves. No social distancing is being maintained neither any SOPs is being followed. During past one month, public get together without precautions are seen at greater level. Markets, hotels and roads are full with people. This attitude might create another disaster. Government should impose penalty on those who break the rules.

HEC LAT Test!
HEC LAT test (Law Admission Test) was conducted by ETC on September 05 in morning and evening shifts. This was the second test of year 2020, as ETC schedules three tests per year for candidates. In comparison with all other previous tests of years 2018, 19 and 2020 this was the toughest test.
It contained many mistakes, for instance not a single question was there relating to Pakistan Studies, while syllabus issued to students via mail or website included at least 10 question from Pakistan Studies. The 2nd flaw was in General knowledge portion, it neither contained more question from science rather then current affairs and crucial information nor included questions related to important facts and figures. More ever there was absence of preposition or grammatical questions in English portion. Overall the test was prepared for level above of an intermediate student.
It doesn’t mean that no one would clear it, surely most of us might pass it out easily but definitely they would be those who expected 90% score. I appeal Chairman HEC to review the syllabus and order investigation into this issue.

Blind justice
Justice is blind but it is blind by birth in Pakistan. The verdict in M K Achakzai case proves that ‘Justice” is not only blind in our country but it is deaf dumb and paralysed. Video footage could not become sufficient proof for the Judiciary who opted to acquit an established murderer.
Are not we living in the society of mental midgets who have no sense to differentiate between right and wrong? It is hoped that the Apex court will take notice of this act of dark justice and overturn the decision and give relief to the family of police official.

SU lacks basic amenities
Sindh University is one of the largest university of Sindh province. It has 32,000 students enrolled yet it is still facing many basic facilities missing (e.g. potable water, less chairs in classrooms, fans, hostile issues, infrastructure and WiFi connection etc) mainly due to corruption. Currently, VC and other staff are charged with corruption of millions that is the reason behind bad reputation of varsity.
More than 60 departments exist in university that offer Graduation, Masters, MPhil and PhD level subjects. But most of the departments in University are facing shortage of classrooms and management. No proper attention is given to university for its prestige and advancement in today’s world. Consequently, students and teachers are facing unbearable situations. Therefore there should be proper probe of varsity affairs and those involved in corruption should be sent behind bars and given rigorous punishment.
