Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar on Friday directed the Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) and local government representatives to take effective measures to avert urban flooding during the ongoing heavy monsoon rains.
He ordered round-the-clock monitoring of stormwater drains, streams, and water channels and called for contingency measures to deal with any urban flooding-like situation in low-lying localities.
CM Buzdar further instructed that all necessary equipment, machinery, and resources be made available to the departments concerned and warned them of stern action in case rainwater is not drain out from streets and markets well in time.
CM CONDOLES LOSS OF LIVES IN RAIN-RELATED ACCIDENTS
Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar expressed a deep sense of sorrow over the loss of lives due to rain-related accidents in Band Road area of Lahore, Sohdra Town of Wazirabad, Hafizabad, Kot Radha Kishan and other areas. He extended sympathies to bereaved heirs and directed the concerned administration to provide best healthcare facilities to the injured. He further directed to expedite rescue operation for the safe recovery of people stuck under debris due to caving in of roof of a godown at Band Road by utilizing every possible resource.
BAN LIFTED FROM JOBS IN CPB
Child attendant post of Child Protection Bureau (CPB) should be upgraded on priority basis besides making psychological inspection of the staff looking after special and abandoned child mandatory.
It is vital to provide special care to the weak child to make them an important useful citizen of the country and their upbringing should be in safe hands for this social welfare department, child protection bureau and social protection authority should work jointly and take the services of the NGOs to improve the efficiency of the institutions.
This was decided in the 40th meeting of the Cabinet Standing Committee on Finance and Development chaired by Punjab Finance Minister Hashim Jawan Bakhat while attended by Minister for Industries and Production Mian Aslam Iqbal, Energy Minister Akthar Malik, Advisor to Chief Minister Dr Salman Shah, secretary finance Abdullah Sumbal, Chairman planning and development Hamid Yaqoob Sheikh and official of the other departments concern.
The meeting discussed 17 agendas out of which approved lifting ban of hiring of Grade-I-15 in Child protection bureau, inclusion of Girls Model School Esa Khel Mianwali in ADP and approval of the funds, special grants for Volleyball Association and returnable grants for the tourism department corporation to resolve the financial issues. Further, special allowance was approved for the employees of the south Punjab secretariat, as 75 percent of basic pay as executive allowance and 100 percent for those who were not getting executive allowance previously.
