Adviser to Chief Minister on Tourism Asif Mehmood has urged that the Tourism Department should work on war footing to repel implications of Covid-19.
While referring to yesterday’s meeting co-chaired by Punjab chief secretary, he said that Prime Minister Imran Khan has directed that Adviser on Tourism and Chief Secretary will review development in tourists projects every week. He said that weekly review on such a high level would be a major breakthrough as officials of the district administration across Punjab will also participate via video link.
“Public-private partnership for development of new tourist destinations will help in strengthening of tourism in Punjab” said the Adviser. He emphasized the need of turning tourism in to the industry saying “Many models in different countries can be adopted for better service delivery”.
Asif Mehmood pointed out that there was tremendous potential in heritage sites in Punjab to attract tourists. “All we need is to interlink tourism with the historical places” he urged. He said that Tourism Department was working to develop historical places so that maximum number of tourists could be attracted to. “Natural tourism spots were not the sole resource of income generation but man-made points could also be developed for the purpose”, vowed the Adviser. He hoped that identification of new tourist destination will be completed soon.
