ISLAMOPHOBIA and Xenophobia are unfortunately on the surge in India which once used to blow the trumpet of being a secular state. Minorities especially Muslims are on the hit list of the extremist Hindus there.
In the latest despicable incident, a derogatory social media post was uploaded against Holy Prophet (SAW) by an extremist from the majority Hindu community in Bengaluru, Karnataka – something that the Muslims cannot condone ever and which is totally unacceptable to them. The local Muslim population registered their protest by taking to the streets. The Indian police instead of preventing this hate crime against Muslims and Islam used brute force and killed three Muslims and injured scores of others. As an added injustice the Muslim community in the area is being falsely framed for alleged vandalism and assault on police personnel. The extremist policies of Modi against minorities have shown its trickledown effect and today the extremist Hindus are so emboldened that they are on the rampage against the Muslim population.
The lives of Muslims and their religious places are no longer safe in India. Just over a week ago, Modi performed the ground breaking of Ram temple at the site of Babri Mosque and the recent incident of blasphemy against our Holy Prophet (SAW) has further hurt the sentiments of Muslims the world over. One should have no doubt that no action will be initiated or taken whatsoever against the profaner, so it is useless to demand action from the Indian government. But time has come that the Muslim countries strongly raise voice against the blasphemous act and other incidents of Islamophobia in India. For how long, our Muslim rulers especially those in the Gulf will continue to turn their back to these anti-Islam and anti-Muslim incidents out of their sheer economic expediency. They need to speak with one voice and cut off all diplomatic and economic ties with the extremist and terrorist state until it corrects its posture towards the Muslims including those in occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
