Promotion of Olive as an alternative and industrial crop is pivotal for socio-economic and industrial growth as well as GDP growth of Pakistan Economy. In this context, 8 year Olive promotional project funded by PSDP, Government of Pakistan is playing important role. As Olive is an alternate and newly introduced crop in Pakistan, a training workshop was arranged by Pakistan Oilseed Development Board Government of Pakistan in National Agriculture Research Centre Islamabad on 11-12th of August,2020. The training was attended by scientists, Olive stakeholders and Progressive Farmers from Islamabad, Punjab, KP& erstwhile FATA and Balochistan. The training was primarily focussed on management of Olive Orchard, their pruning, training and high yield. Secondly, it was a forum for understanding the timing and different stages of harvesting Olive fruit for getting premium quality Olive Oil.
In the concluding session of the training on 12th of August,2020,Chairman Pakistan Agriculture Research Council Dr. Muhammad Azeem Khan, National Project Director (Olive) Dr. Muhammad Tariq and DG NARC Syed Sibtain also graced the occasion. Training Participation certificates were distributed amongst participants. Speaking at the solemn occasion, Chairman PARC expressed his hope that time is not that far when Overall Olive cultivation in Pakistan would exceed the total Olive covered area of Spain and the country would also be exporting Olive Oil and other value addition products under the brand name of “Pak Olive”
