DUBAI – Iran has targeted Tel Aviv and the port city of Haifa as it fired fresh salvos of missiles on Israel early Monday shortly after its capital city of Tehran was bombed.
Israel’s national emergency service has confirmed that five people were killed in the centre region while several people were injured in the attack.
Iran started carrying out the retaliatory attacks on Saturday a day after Israel targeted Iranian nuclear and ballistic missile programs on Friday. Top Iranian military leaders and several scientists have been killed in the Israeli attacks.
Fires were seen burning at a power plant near the port of Haifa, international media reported. Several residential buildings were destroyed in a strike that shattered the windows of hotels and other nearby homes in Israel.
The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) in a press release confirmed the new wave of the punitive strikes.
It said the chief of the IRGC.’s Intelligence Organization, Mohammad Kazemi, and two of his colleagues, Hassan Mohaqeq and Mohsen Baqeri, had been killed on Sunday in strikes by the Israel. The I.R.G.C. said that the Corps’ Aerospace Force was hitting intelligence centers in Israel.
The Israeli regime launched strikes inside Iranian territory, including on residential buildings, in an unprovoked act of aggression overnight on June 13. Top Iranian military officials were assassinated in targeted strikes.
A day earlier, President Donald Trump said he hoped Israel and Iran could reach deal but said sometimes countries have to fight it out first.
Talking to reporters as he left for the G7 summit in Canada, Trump said: “I hope there’s going to be a deal. I think it’s time for a deal and we’ll see what happens. Sometimes they have to fight it out, but we’re gonna see what happens,” Trump said.
