3-day faculty development workshop begin at UO

The University of Okara’s (UO) Department of Media & Communication Studies and the Centre of Media & Communication Studies, University of Gujrat (UOG) have signed and Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). Under this pact, the both institutions will be holding the Faculty Development Training Workshops as part of the project titled ‘US-Pakistan University Partnerships Grants Program 2020-2023.’

In this regard, the first phase of training commenced at the UO on Tuesday.

The resource persons for this phase include Prof DrZahidYousaf, Project Lead and Dean Faculty of Arts and Humanities, UOG, Prof DrSaveraShami, Chairperson Department of Digital Media, PU, Dr Ayesha Ashfaq, Chairperson Department of Development Communication, PU, DrArshad Ali, Associate Professor at UOG and Ayesha Kamal and Shahzad Ahmad from Department of Fine Arts, UOG.

These trainers will deliver interactive lectures on various key areas of teaching including using technology for effective teaching, digital safety, modern advertising techniques, modern teaching methods in social sciences, writing and editing and curriculum development.

During the first day of the training, DrSavera discussed the role of digital media in teaching while Dr Ayesha lectured on the qualitative research techniques.

In the opening session of the workshop, the UO Vice Chancellor, Prof Dr Muhammad Wajid and the In-charge Department of Media & Communication Studies, DrZahid Bilal, discussed the need and key components of the training.

Prof Wajid told, “Equipping our faculty with state-of-the-art teaching techniques is our utmost priority so that we can produce skilled graduates to meet the needs of the modern job market.”

DrZahid said, “There have been explored many news arenas in the field of media studies over the years and we want to prepare our teachers to cope up with the emerging trends and challenges.”

DrYousaf argued, “The core purpose of this activity is to establish a network of social science teaching community.”
