LAHORE – The Punjab Education Curriculum and Training Authority (PCTB) has decided to revise 29 textbooks for classes 8 and nine for the next academic year.
Officials said the authority has formally begun work on the updated editions, with significant changes planned in 18 textbooks of class nine.
In a circular issued to publishers, PCTB instructed them to print the upcoming textbooks in accordance with the newly approved modifications.
The authorities said the revisions aim to improve content quality and align the curriculum with updated academic requirements.
Earlier, the Punjab School Education Department has decided to overhaul the curriculum for grades one to three in an effort to make early learning more child-friendly and effective. Officials said the revised syllabus will exclude all non-essential material so students can focus on core learning objectives.
Under the new plan, only key student learning outcomes (SLOs) will be retained, while repetitive or unnecessary topics will be removed. Authorities noted that the current curriculum places an undue academic burden on young children, limiting their ability to understand basic concepts.
The upcoming changes are aimed at easing this pressure and enhancing the overall standard of primary education across the province.
