ISLAMABAD – Funeral prayers of Pakistan Army officers and personnel held after devastating Mi-17 helicopter crash. A large number of people gathered alongside security forces to offer the final prayers for the fallen heroes.
Coffins draped in respect and solemn dignity were brought one by one as mourners stood in silence, many struggling to hold back tears while paying tribute to those who served in the line of duty. The scene reflected a nation united in sorrow, as families, comrades, and civilians came together to bid farewell to lives cut short in an instant.
On Wednesday, ISPR said the tragedy occurred when the Mi-17 helicopter went down shortly after takeoff, reportedly due to a suspected technical malfunction. The military confirmed that there were no survivors, and a formal board of inquiry has been launched to determine the exact cause of the crash. Among the deceased were both pilots, along with other security personnel onboard.

Eyewitnesses described a horrifying sequence of events, saying the helicopter appeared to lose altitude moments after becoming airborne, struck trees, and then crashed violently. Residents in nearby areas reported hearing a deafening blast followed by thick smoke rising from the crash site, as panic and chaos unfolded in seconds.
Rescue teams rushed to the scene within minutes, where officials later confirmed the recovery of approximately 20 bodies, all reportedly identifiable. The crash site was swiftly cordoned off by security forces, with access restricted as recovery and investigation efforts continued. Some reports also suggested limitations on civilian filming of the aftermath.
The incident took place during heightened security operations in the region, where forces had been deployed in response to a planned protest march. The aircraft was reportedly being used to transport personnel between operational locations at the time of the tragedy.
