The Polio eradication campaign Wednesday received another blow when two policemen deployed on security of a polio team were brutally gunned down by the unknown assailants in Lower Dir district. Earlier, a female Polio worker was among two shot down by the unknown terrorists in Bannu on December 10 last badly effecting the Polio Eradication drive.
“Unidentified miscreants opened fire on the Police near Markhani Bridge, Maidan area of Lower Dir killing two Police officials providing security to the Polio vaccinators”. Local officials said. The victims have been identified as Constable Farman and Sepoy Mukarram.
The policemen, who were posted at the Lal Qilla police station, were travelling on a motorcycle when they were intercepted by the vehicle of the attackers on the bridge near the village who opened fire at them killing both on the spot. The alleged terrorists managed to escape after committing the crime.
The law enforcers rushed to the site and shifted the dead bodies to nearby hospital. The police have started a search operation to nab the suspects who remained at large.
