A look at records broken during Zalmi and Gladiators slug-fest

Quetta Gladiators and Peshawar Zalmi squared off in one of the highest-scoring contests in the Pakistan Super League while setting several league records during their match at the Pindi Cricket Stadium.

Jason Roy led the Gladiators’ charge as they chased down 240 for the win with 10 balls and 8 wickets to spare to keep alive Quetta’s chances of making the final four. 

Following are the records set and or broken during Zalmi vs Gladiators.

Gladiators team records against Zalmi:

  • The 241 runs chased down by Quetta is the highest successful chase in PSL history surpassing Multan’s 207 runs against Lahore Qalandars. It also happens to be the fourth-highest successful chase in the history of T20 cricket.
  • The Gladiators’ 243 for 2 is the third-highest total in PSL history following Islamabad United’s 247 for 2 against Zalmi in 2021 and the Sultans’ 245 for 3 against the Gladiators in 2022.
  • Quetta’s powerplay score of 88 for 1 is the second-highest powerplay total for any team in the PSL behind United’s 97 for 0 against Gladiators in 2021. Their 100 in 6.5 overs is also the second fastest in the PSL behind United’s in 6.2 overs against Gladiators.

Jason Roy’s records:

  • Roy’s 145* happens to be the highest-ever individual score in PSL bettering the previous record of 127 set by Colin Munro for Karachi Kings.
  • The 29 innings Roy needed to complete 1000 PSL runs in the quickest in league history beating the previous best of Shaan Masood who needed 29 games to reach the mark.
  • Roy becomes one of just three batters with multiple PSL hundreds.
  • Roy’s 44-ball hundred is the second-fastest in PSL history behind Rilee Rossouw who got to the mark in 43 balls.

Zalmi’s records against the Gladiators:

  • The 162 opening partnership between Babar and Saim Ayub is the second-highest stand by any pair in the PSL behind the 176 set by Babar Azam and Sharjeel Khan for Karachi against Islamabad United in 2021.
  • Babar Azam’s 8th ton in T20 cricket ties him for second-most on the list with Aaron Finch, Michael Klinger and David Warner. Chris Gayle leads the list with 22 hundreds in the format.

Zalmi and Gladiators collective record:

  • The 483 runs scored by both teams is the highest aggregate score in a PSL match beating the 479 runs between Islamabad United and Gladiators in 2021.
  • The 483 runs collectively scored is also the highest in a T20 match in Asia.
