World Food Day Stakeholders pledge to improve fragile food security situation

On the eve of the World Food Day being celebrated today stakeholders made a solemn pledge to better the country’s fragile food security situation.

On the occasion, messages from the President and Prime Minister were read out.
Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Syed Fakhar Imam attended as chief guest.

Syed Fakhar Imam while congratulating all stakeholders for organizing WFD event said that we have to adopt an evidence- based approach to policy-making, by considering diverse areas impacting food systems including agriculture, education, environment, water, social protection and finance.

Florence Rolle, FAO Representative in Pakistan said between 720 and 811 million people in the world faced hunger.

Nearly 2.37 billion people did not have access to adequate food in 2020 – an increase of 320 million people in just one year.

Secretary MNFS&R, Tahir Khursheed said Pakistan had affirmed its commitment to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals as its own national development agenda through a unanimous National Assembly Resolution.
