LONDON – Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle have returned to the United Kingdom with their two children, Archie and Lilibet, after spending six years in the United States, the local British media reported on Thursday.
The couple reportedly arrived at Birmingham Airport on a private flight from California, accompanied by their children.
Harry and Meghan are not expected to resume official duties as working members of the Royal Family. Instead, they will reportedly live in the UK in a private capacity.
The couple is believed to be planning to use a private residence in the Cotswolds, outside London, as their base. Their children have reportedly been enrolled in school, with the new academic year expected to begin next week.
Harry and Meghan moved to the United States six years ago following a series of disagreements with members of the Royal Family. The couple stepped back from royal duties and eventually settled in California.
At the time, the reports suggested that Harry had kept his plans to leave the UK from his father, King Charles, his stepmother Queen Camilla and his elder brother, Prince William, until shortly before the move.
Since relocating to the US, Harry and Meghan have spoken publicly about their experiences within the Royal Family through interviews, a documentary series and Harry’s memoir.
The late Queen Elizabeth II had previously made clear that the couple could not continue a partial role as working royals while living independently overseas. Harry also lost his honorary military titles after stepping down from royal duties.
It remains unclear what prompted the couple’s return to the UK and whether any member of the Royal Family played a role in the decision.
