LAHORE – Smog will likely persist in Lahore and the plains of Punjab on Monday night and the next two days due to prolonged dryness and atmospheric conditions.
At 9:50 pm, Lahore leads the list of most polluted cities in the world with an AQI of 272 (very unhealthy). The prevailing situation will likely persist due to a lack of rain.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), continental air prevails over most parts of Pakistan. A shallow westerly wave also prevails over the extreme northern parts of the country.
Under these conditions, dry weather is expected in Lahore and most districts of the province on Monday night and the next two days. Cold weather is likely in Murree, Galiyat and surroundings.
Smog will likely prevail in Lahore, Gujranwala, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Okara, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Khanewal, Rahim Yar Khan, Bahawalpur and Multan. Experts have advised citizens to take precautionary measures to save themselves from smog-related hazards.
Lahore’s maximum temperatures will likely remain between 30°C and 32°C on Tuesday and Wednesday and between 29°C and 31°C on Thursday.
Meanwhile, dry weather prevailed in Lahore and most districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours. Cold weather prevailed in Murree and Galyat. Smog persisted in Lahore and the eastern districts of Punjab.
Dera Ghazi Khan remained the hottest place in Punjab, where the maximum temperature was recorded at 33°C. The maximum temperature in Sahiwal, Bahawalpur and Faisalabad was recorded at 32°C.
In Lahore, the maximum temperature was recorded at 31°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 52 per cent.
