Waste reduction, 3 bin system can help in environment protection: CEO LWMC

Lahore Waste Management Company is trying to make the best sanitation system and environmental protection possible in the city. To achieve this goal, LWMC and the Institute of Urbanism, WWF Pakistan, are active for environmental safety and public awareness.

As part of the initiatives, all Pakistan Environment Journalists visited LWMC Head Office in connection with environmental safety awareness activity. CEO LWMC Babar Sahib Din informed the guests about LWMC’s eco-friendly policies and measures taken for environmental protection and said that by reducing waste production and improving waste segregation process waste recycling and environment safety can be ensured.

LWMC processes 200 tonnes of waste daily at the compost plant. Compost is prepared by separating the organic waste through the process of segregation. According to LWMC spokesperson Umar Chaudhary, the delegation of journalists was briefed about the working of LWMC in the modern operational monitoring room, while the delegation was given an informative visit of the LWMC compost plant and Lakhodeir landfill site. Journalists from Karachi, Peshawar, Islamabad, and Lahore appreciated the initiatives taken in LWMC.

Further, CEO LWMC Babar Sahib Din also informed about the saving of 1.5 lac litres of diesel in the organization through the use of route digitalization and artificial intelligence. CEO LWMC Babar Sahib Din further said that LWMC is trying to promote three-bin culture in the city. Babar Sahib Din has also requested the citizens to cooperate with LWMC for environmental protection. Babar Sahib says that citizens can play an important role in making the environment clean by adopting the habit of a three bins system.

LWMC’s helpline 1139 can be contacted for redressal of complaints and suggestions related to cleanliness, while complaints are also being redressed promptly through the use of social media.
