Mufti Jana Mir, a prominent religious scholar, was killed in a bomb blast in Lower South Waziristan, police confirmed on Monday.
According to DSP Wana Circle Asghar Ali Shah, the explosion took place on the ground floor of a supermarket in the bustling Rustam Bazaar area.
The blast left Mufti Mir critically wounded. He was rushed to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital in Wana, where he later died despite efforts to save his life, the officer said.
Following the explosion, police teams arrived at the scene, sealed off the area, and began collecting forensic evidence as part of the investigation.
DSP Shah said initial investigations indicate that the explosive device had been planted beforehand, apparently to target Mufti Mir specifically.
He added that authorities are continuing their investigation to identify those behind the attack and establish the motive.
The bombing occurred just three days after unidentified assailants fatally shot Maulana Ismail, a leader associated with Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), in Azam Warsak Bazaar in the Birmal tehsil
