Adviser to CM on Law and Environment MurtazaWahab on Saturday inaugurated COVID-19 Vaccination Centre and Botanical Garden at the University of Karachi.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the COVID-19 vaccination centre for the university’s employees, provincial adviser called the people to prove the anti-vaccine propaganda wrong with practical action.
“In Sindh around 1.2 million people have been vaccinated so far,” Wahab said. “People should avoid believing the fake WhatsApp messages,” he appealed.
“Health is the a gift of the God but the Almighty also command to take care of one self,” provincial adviser said.
“The government forced to impose restrictions in view of the health situation, if the people want to do away the restrictions they should follow the Standard operating procedure (SOPs),” he said.“
People have got themselves vaccinated in parts of the world where the restrictions are now being relieved,” MurtazaWahab said. “In United States 70 pct people have been vaccinated”.
“The government has established 250 vaccination centres across Sindh,” Wahab said.He lauded the efforts of the front-line health workers against the coronavirus pandemic.
Talking on distribution of the river water among the provinces, MurtazaWahab said, “We are not agreed with the 1991 water accord and have reservations over it till now.” “But even this water agreement not being followed,” he complained.
Talking on water shortage in Karachi, Wahab said that ceaseless population growth in the city is the reason behind the water scarcity.
“Presently Karachi is getting 50 percent of its overall requirement,” he said.Later, the spokesperson for Sindh government inaugurated the Botanical Garden at the university.
Addressing the event as a chief guest, Wahab said that as a nation, we need to plant trees to improve the environment as plants will benefit future generations for decades to come.
He said that unfortunately no attention was paid to tree planting in Karachi and he was happy that attention was being paid to tree planting in Karachi University as global warming is actually a “global warning” so every individual and every student must plant a tree.
He also said that Sindh government had planted 30,000 saplings in Urban Forest in Clifton and thousands of fruits and flowering plants in Karachi Hill Park.He further said that 43,000 students are studying in Karachi University
If every student planted a plant, the university would present a more beautiful scene and if we all adopt the same style as a nation, the environment would change.
