VSO celebrates international Youth Day

Empowering Pakistan’s youth can lead the response to today’s challenges, including tackling climate change, could not be more important.

This was said by British High Commissioner Jane Marriott CMG OBE at a ceremony marking ‘International Youth Day’ on Tuesday.

The event was organized by Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO).

Ms. Jane Marriott CMG OBE said, “Today’s celebration by the Voluntary Service Overseas celebrated all that Pakistan’s dynamic youth have achieved, and was also a reminder of the importance of ensuring every child gets a good education.”

The event marked the role of youth in addressing challenges faced by Pakistan through their involvement. The government representatives, international donors, and civil society members attend the event.

Country Representative of VSO, Seher Afsheen spoke about the organization’s objectives to formalize and improve existing Volunteer Policy.

Afsheen underscored the invaluable support provided by the UK. She said “Education is vital for empowering youth for contributing to the nation’s development prospects.”

Dr. Muhammad Ali Malik Deputy Secretary for Prime Minister’s Youth Program, Ms Sabiha Shaheen from Bargad, also attend the event along with other development Partners. They highlighted the impact of climate change and how youth can play a positive role in climate change adaptation and Resilient education.

VSO is the world’s leading international development charity that works through volunteers to create a fair world for everyone.

VSO has been working in Pakistan since 1987 – during these three decades VSO has engaged the skills and expertise of 300 international volunteers and 3000+ national and community volunteers to support livelihood, education, participation, governance, resilience, and youth initiatives.
