ISLAMABAD – Former United States ambassador to Israel Dan Shapiro has claimed that President Donald Trump may attempt to target Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in the coming weeks.

Shapiro, who served as the US ambassador to Israel during the presidency of Barack Obama, made the remarks in an interview with an Israeli news outlet.

According to the report, Shapiro alleged that President Trump could pursue direct action against Iran’s top leadership amid rising regional tensions.

His comments come at a time when Iran’s Supreme Leader has accused the United States of involvement in violence, protests and killings inside Iran.

Referring to Ayatollah Khamenei’s age and health, Shapiro said the Iranian leader is now 86 years old and suggested that Iran may soon face a transition in leadership.

In a separate statement posted on social media platform X, Shapiro also said a major US naval fleet would soon be deployed in the Middle East, which, he claimed, could both facilitate potential military action against Iran and strengthen defensive preparations in case of a retaliatory response.
