WASHINGTON – Following Iranian missile attacks in Qatar, US President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance held discussions with Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani regarding a ceasefire proposal between Iran and Israel.

The international news agencies reported that Trump and Vance spoke with the Qatari Emir about the proposed ceasefire, during which Trump informed the Emir that Israel had agreed to the ceasefire.

Trump requested the Emir’s assistance in persuading Iran to accept the truce. Subsequently, Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani held talks with Iranian officials and succeeded in convincing them to agree to the US-proposed ceasefire.

President Trump later announced the breakthrough via his social media platform Truth Social, stating, “Congratulations to all! A complete ceasefire agreement has been reached between Iran and Israel.”

He added that both Iran and Israel would complete their ongoing operations within six hours, and the war would be considered officially over in the next 12 hours.

Following Trump’s announcement, a White House official confirmed that the president had spoken by phone with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday afternoon while Vice President JD Vance along with senators Marco Rubio and Mike Witkoff engaged in direct and indirect talks with Iranian representatives.

According to the White House, Israel agreed to the ceasefire on the condition that Iran refrains from any further attacks, and Iran indicated to the US that it would not carry out additional strikes.

American media reported that President Trump called it a “great day for the world” and said the ceasefire was “unlimited”, expressing hope that it would last indefinitely.

Meanwhile, a senior Iranian official stated that Iran had accepted the ceasefire proposal with Israel, based on US suggestions and Qatari mediation.

Israeli Prime Minister Nethanyahu also confirmed ceasefire brokered by President Trump.
