SYDNEY – Philippine authorities have confirmed that the father and son accused of carrying out one of Australia’s deadliest mass shootings spent most of November in the Philippines prior to the attack.
According to immigration officials in Manila, Sajid Akram and his son Naveed Akram entered the Philippines together on November 1, 2025, arriving from Sydney.
Sajid Akram entered the country using an Indian passport while Naveed Akram travelled as an Australian national.
Immigration spokesperson Dana Sandoval said the pair declared Davao, a southern Philippine province, as their final destination. She confirmed that both men departed the Philippines on November 28, travelling from Davao to Manila before boarding a flight back to Sydney.
The authorities said police and military agencies had earlier been verifying reports about the suspects’ presence in the country before the confirmation was issued.
Australian police earlier had identified the suspects in the deadly shooting at Sydney’s Bondi Beach as a father and son.
The police confirmed that no additional suspects are being sought.
New South Wales Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon said the attackers were a 50-year-old man and his 24-year-old son. The elder suspect was shot dead at the scene, while the younger suspect remains hospitalised in critical but stable condition.
At least 16 people were killed in the attack including 15 victims and one of the assailants while around 40 others sustained injuries, said the police.
The police said they are still investigating the motive as well as the background of the suspects in Bondi Beach shooting incident.
