RAWALPINDI – Doctors at the Holy Family Hospital in Rawalpindi issued a death certificate for a newborn who was later found to be alive, reflecting serious negligence on part of the hospital’s administration.
The incident occurred after the child was born in poor health, prompting doctors to initially declare the baby dead.
According to the parents, the baby was born the previous day in a critical condition, and the doctors issued the death certificate, confirming the baby’s death.
However, upon receiving the baby’s body, the parents noticed signs of life, as the baby was observed breathing and wearing an oxygen mask.
Upon realizing the mistake, the child was immediately transferred to a ventilator for further care.
Hospital administration stated that the newborn was affected by Lazarus Syndrome, a rare phenomenon where a person appears dead but later shows signs of life due to a sudden revival.
In response to the incident, the hospital has formed an inquiry committee to investigate the matter.
The administration assured that strict action would be taken against any personnel responsible for issuing the death certificate mistakenly.
