SECP launches digital framework to make stock market investment ‘faster and easier’

Secp Pays Rs1 19bn In Backdated Salaries Perks In 16 Months

ISLAMABAD – The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) has introduced a new digital onboarding framework aimed at making investment in the stock market faster and easier.

Under the new framework, applications for a Sahulat Account will be decided within one day, while applications for an Investor Account will be processed within two days, the Commission said.

Investors will also be able to track the status of their applications online using a tracking ID.

The regulator said brokers will be required to provide written reasons if they reject an account-opening application. Investors who have already been verified will not be required to undergo the verification process again.

The new framework will also enable digital onboarding and processing around the clock, seven days a week.

SECP said the initiative is part of efforts to increase the number of stock market investors to 2.5 million.

SECP Chairman Dr. Kabir Ahmed Sidhu said increasing the participation of young people in the stock market is a priority. He said modern technology is being used to make the investment process easier.

Sidhu also said Pakistan’s capital market offers significant opportunities for growth and investment.
