KARACHI – The Supreme Court on Monday withdrew its ruling to remove Murtaza Wahaba as the Karachi administrator after he tendered an unconditional apology for using of harsh words in the courtroom.

Earlier, a two-member bench comprising Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Justice Qazi Mohammad Amin issued the directives for removal of Wahab during the hearing of a case related to Gutter Baghicha at the Karachi Registry.

During the hearing of the case, the chief justice instructed the Sindh chief minister to appoint an “impartial and competent” person as administrator of Karachi.

The court observed that Murtaza Wahab is not competent enough to hold the post.

Giving harsh response, Wahab said: “Should we walk out and leave the government”. He added that major observations are made against the government in open courts.

His response drew stern reactor from the court as CJP Gulzar told him, “Stop doing politics in the court”.

“Get out of here. Court is dismissing you now,” the CJP ordered, asking Wahab if he is an administrator of the city or a political leader.

The top judge remarked that Wahab failed to perform his duties as an administrator.

Later, Karachi administrator Murtaza Wahab later tender an apology to the court, saying: “I apologize for my behavior”.

Justice Qazi Amin remarked that the court has removed him from the post before a break in the hearing.

During the break, Wahab told media that he was stating his opinion in the court with great respect, adding that he will accept any decision of the court.

The court later accepted the apology of Murtaza Wahab after a short break in the proceedings and withdrew the order to remove him as Karachi administrator.

In October 2021, the apex court had ordered the Karachi administrator to remove all encroachment on the land meant for the Gutter Baghicha Park and restore it to its original shape for the public.
