Saudi Arabia conditions normalization with Israel on Palestinian statehood path

WASHINGTON – Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman expressed his kingdom’s interest in joining the Abraham Accords, but emphasized that any normalization of relations with Israel must include a “clear path” to a Palestinian state.

During a meeting with US President Donald Trump in the Oval Office, the prince reiterated his commitment to securing a two-state solution as part of any peace agreement.

“We want to be involved in the Abraham Accords, but we also need to ensure that a viable solution for Palestinian statehood is on the table,” Prince Mohammed said.

“We are committed to working toward that goal and preparing the right conditions as quickly as possible.”

When Trump inquired about the prince’s view on the accords, the Saudi leader expressed his optimism but stressed that lasting peace would require a fair resolution for both Israelis and Palestinians.

“We seek peace for both Israelis and Palestinians,” he said. “Our goal is to ensure they coexist peacefully in the region, and we are dedicated to making that happen.”

The Saudi kingdom has consistently highlighted Palestinian statehood as a key objective in its foreign policy.

However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has long resisted a two-state solution, despite some diplomatic gestures regarding Palestinian aspirations in the context of Trump’s mediated ceasefire efforts in Gaza.
