Saba Qamar Calls For Stronger Safeguards For Child Rights On World Childrens Day

ISLAMABAD – UNICEF Pakistan’s National Ambassador for Child Rights Saba Qamar has urged nationwide efforts to strengthen the protection of children’s rights as the country marked World Children’s Day.

In a video message released on social media, the acclaimed actress appealed to the public to “stand together” to ensure the safety, dignity and well-being of children. She emphasised that every child has the right to quality education, a healthy upbringing, a safe environment and the ability to voice their aspirations for the future.

Highlighting concerning statistics, Saba Qamar noted that an estimated 19 million girls in Pakistan are affected by child marriage, while more than half of adolescent girls experience pregnancy before the age of 18 — a situation she warned poses serious health risks to both mothers and infants.

She called on citizens to express solidarity with vulnerable children by “turning Pakistan blue,” the symbolic theme of World Children’s Day observed globally.

UNICEF appointed Saba Qamar as Pakistan’s first National Ambassador for Child Rights in 2024. Since then, she has been advocating awareness on issues including child education, mental health, gender equality, child marriage and violence against children.
