RAWALPINDI – The rawalpindi police investigating the murder of Hina Javed at Askari Apartments in Lal Kurti have made significant progress, with the domestic worker allegedly providing investigators with multiple accounts of the incident.
The police sources said that the investigation indicates that Hina was allegedly subjected to violence and strangled during a domestic dispute involving her husband, Faisal Asghar Imam.
The domestic worker, identified as Zeeshan, reportedly gave three different statements from the time he was taken into custody until formal police questioning began.
In his first statement, Zeeshan allegedly claimed that he had killed Hina as part of a plan made with Faisal Imam. In his second account, he reportedly said that he had committed the murder alone. In his third statement, he allegedly told investigators that he was called during a dispute between the couple and assisted Faisal Imam.
Investigators are examining all three accounts and other evidence to establish the exact sequence of events.
According to the latest version of events being investigated, Hina allegedly attempted to flee during the argument. The two men reportedly caught her after she resisted, following which she was allegedly strangled.
Police are also investigating the alleged staging of the crime scene. According to investigators, a decision was allegedly made to suspend Hina’s body from a wire attached to the bathroom shower and portray the death as a suicide or an attack by unidentified intruders.
The investigators are also examining whether Zeeshan may have had a separate motive. Police sources said he allegedly had access to the household and was suspected of stealing cash and belongings from Hina’s purse and the residence.
The police are therefore investigating the possibility that Hina may have discovered the alleged theft and that Zeeshan could have attacked her to prevent the theft from being exposed.
However, the investigators are also examining whether one person could have carried the body to the bathroom and staged the scene in the manner described.
The case initially came to police attention after Hina’s father-in-law reportedly informed the authorities that intruders had entered the house. Police later found Hina’s body suspended from the bathroom shower.
The initial claims by household members that unidentified intruders were responsible could not be substantiated by evidence found at the scene, according to the police.
A murder case was registered on a complaint filed by Hina’s brother, Fahad, against her husband Faisal Asghar Imam, father-in-law Asghar Imam and domestic worker Zeeshan.
Faisal Imam and Zeeshan are currently in police custody on a three-day physical remand.
Rawalpindi City Police Officer Hassan Mushtaq Sukhera has constituted a high-level investigation team headed by SSP Investigation Saifullah to conduct a detailed probe into the case.
Rawalpindi police said all possible motives and versions of the incident are being examined before reaching a final conclusion.
