Rains, snowfall expected in Pakistan from March 10

ISLAMABAD – Significant rain-wind/thunderstorms with snowfall over the hills are likely across Pakistan from March 10 to March 14.

As per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a westerly wave will likely enter Balochistan on March 09. It will extend upper parts of Pakistan on March 11. Another westerly wave will enter Pakistan on March 12.

Under the influence of these weather systems, countrywide intermittent rains with snowfall over the hills are expected from March 10.

Balochistan:

Rain-wind/thunderstorms with isolated heavy falls are likely in Turbat, Kech, Gwadar, Jiwani, Pasni, Ormara, Panjgur, Kharan, Kalat, Khuzdar, Lasbella and Awaran on March 09 (evening/night) March 10. Rain-wind/thunderstorms with snowfall over the hills are expected in Chagi, Noushki, Washuk, Mastung, Sibbi, Naseerabad, Zhob, Sherani, Barkhan, Musakhel, Kohlu, Jhal Magsi, Loralai, Ziarat, Quetta, Chaman, Pishin, Qila Abdullah and Qila Saifullah from March 10 to March 13 with occasional gaps.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa:

Rain-wind/thunderstorms with snowfall over the hills are expected in Waziristan, Kohat, Lakki Marwat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Bajaur, Karak, Khyber, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan and Kurram from March 10 (evening/night) to March 14. Isolated heavy falls and hailstorms are also expected on March 13 and March 14.

Gilgit Baltistan/Kashmir:

Rain-wind/thunderstorms with snowfall over the hills are expected in Gilgit-Baltistan (Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, Shigar), Kashmir (Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur) from March 11 to March 15.

Punjab/Islamabad:

Rain-wind/thunderstorms with few heavy falls are expected in Murree, Galyat, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Kasur, Okara, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Khushab, Sargodha, Mianwali and Bhakkar from March 11 (evening/night) to March 14. Rain-wind/thunderstorms are also expected in Multan, Kot Addu, Layyah, Rajanpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Muzaffargarh, Rahim Yar Khan, Sadiqabad, Khanpur, Sahiwal, Bahawalpur and Bahawalnagar on March 13. Isolated hailstorms are also likely during this period.

Sindh:

Rain-wind/thunderstorms are expected in Sukkur, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Larkana and Dadu from March 10 evening/night to March 12. Dry/windy weather is expected in southern parts of the province.

Possible Impacts and advises:

Heavy rainfall may cause flash flooding in the local nullahs of Gwadar, Ketch, Turbat, and Panjgur on March 09 and March 10. Snowfall may disrupt traffic in northern parts of Balochistan from March 10 to March 13.

Heavy rain with isolated heavy snowfall may cause the closure of roads in Murree, Galyat, Naran, Kaghan, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Shangla, Astore, Hunza, Skardu, Neelum Valley, Bagh, Poonch and Haveli on March 13 and March 14.

Landslides in Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galyat, Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan may affect the vulnerable points in the area during the wet spell. Wind-thunderstorm/hailstorms may damage loose structures like electric poles and solar panels. Tourists are advised not to travel unnecessarily, while farmers are advised to remain cautious about their crops.
