Punjab extends educational institutions’ holidays by one week amid cold weather

January 12 Or January 19 Punjab Minister Wants Public To Decide On Winter Holidays

LAHORE – Punjab Minister for Education Rana Sikandar Hayat has announced a one-week extension in the winter holidays of educational institutions across the province, citing concerns over students’ health amid severe weather conditions.

The decision was made following a public survey conducted on the minister’s official social media page. According to Rana Sikandar Hayat, educational institutions will now reopen on January 19 instead of January 12, after consultations with the public.

He said the decision was taken keeping in view the intensity of the weather and the health of students. Sharing the survey results, the minister stated that nearly 87 percent of participants supported the extension of holidays, while around 13 percent favored reopening institutions on January 12.

According to the poll, 154,178 votes were cast in favor of reopening schools on January 19, whereas 24,829 votes supported reopening on January 12.

The education minister directed all chief executive officers (CEOs) of education departments to ensure the implementation of the decision in their respective districts.
