Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, spurred widespread demonstrations across Karachi on Friday, denouncing what he termed as the worst electoral malpractice in recent history. Amid chants for transparency and fairness, over 100 locations witnessed impassioned protests, demanding accountability for alleged manipulation of election results.
Reiterating their stance, protesters called for the nullification of fraudulent outcomes and demanded adherence to Form 45 guidelines by the Election Commission, as per the Sindh High Court’s directive to release accurate results by February 22.
The “Black Day” protests, held outside mosques and key public spaces after Friday prayers, saw banners and placards raised, decrying electoral irregularities and the imposition of fabricated mandates. Dr. Osama Razi, Deputy Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi, addressed the gathering at Bilal Mosque on Abu al-Hasan Ispahani Road, condemning what he labeled as a subversion of democracy.
He underscored the disenfranchisement of the public’s mandate, emphasizing the need for electoral justice. Razi urged respect for the people’s voice and urged authorities to annul fraudulent election results, adhering strictly to Form 45 protocols. The protests, spanning areas like Banaras, Metroville, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Ittehad Town, and others, attracted leaders such as Maulana Mudassir Hussain Ansari, Syed Abdul Rashid, Maulana Fazl Ahad, and Muhammad Yousuf, among others. The demonstrations underscored the public’s rejection of electoral coercion and underscored the imperative of safeguarding democratic principles in Karachi.
