In a Pakistan Social and Living Standards Measurement (PSLM) Survey conducted in the year 2004-05 and subsequently in years 2005-06, 2006-07,2007-08, 2008-09, 2010-11, 2011-12, 2012-13, 2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16 and 2018-19, a representative sample of Pakistanis over the age of 10 years from across the country were assessed with respect to the type of school/educational institute they were enrolled in.

According to a statement issued by Gallup Pakistan, in response to this question, in year 2004-05, 70% said Government school/institution, while 27% said Private school/institution. Other responses included but were not limited to DeeniMadaris, NGO, Foundation, & Trusts schools, Non-Formal Basic Education School, etc., however, they have not been illustrated for the purpose of this press release due to low response rates.

In 2018-19, 58% responded that they were enrolled in Government schools/institutions, while 35% responded that they were enrolled in Private schools/institutions.

The proportion of people who reported being enrolled in Government schools/institutions fell by 12%, while those enrolled in Private schools/institutions increased by 8% in the 14 years between the two surveys.
