A memorandum of understanding was signed, between Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) and National Cleaner Production Center Rawalpindi at University Main Campus.
This MoU was held Under University-Industry Linkage programme of the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan to undertake various initiatives & to extend cooperation between both organizations for environment betterment & up-gradation.
Prof. Dr. Qamar-uz-Zaman, Vice Chancellor of the PMAS-Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi and Mr. Muhammad Irshad Ramay, Coordinator, National Cleaner Production Center, Rawalpindi signed MoU on behalf of their respective organizations.
Under the MoU, development of working relationships and capacity building of cleaner production is envisaged. Both organizations agreed to promote environmentally friendly technologies with mutual cooperation.
The scope of activities in the agreement would be to build the capacity of students through involvement in workshops, conferences, projects, internship programmes, volunteer programs and joint studies with faculty members.
Addressing the participants, Prof. Dr. Qamar-uz-Zaman Vice Chancellor PMAS-AAUR appreciated the role of NCPC not only for the promotion of alternative energy sources but also for protecting biodiversity with afforestation and conservation.
He stressed that vegetation, adoption of innovative techniques to prevent incidents, minimize environmental impact, prevent environmental pollution and reduce health and safety risks to our stakeholders. He assured all possible cooperation on behalf of PMAS-AAUR to make all endeavors successful.
The Coordinator (NCPC) Mr. Muhammad Irshad Ramay The purpose of MOU was to extend cooperation and support between two organizations for betterment of Environment told that National Cleaner Production Center Foundation (NCPC) aims to introduce and promote Cleaner Production (CP) techniques and processes for Pollution Prevention at source along with integrated waste management.
He further informed that NCPC have expertise in providing quality services in the different areas i.e. Environment, Waste Management, Energy, Capacity Building and Cleaner Production. He also indicates the three core issues for sustainable development i.e Ownership, Management & Capacity building.
Earlier, Dr. Shahid Ali Khan, Director, University Green Office of the PMAS-AAUR welcomed the participants and gave a brief presentation about the sustainable activities carried out by the University Green Office.
He was of the view that the Green Office of PMAS-AAUR is a platform for students & employees of the University where sustainable ideas are shaped, plans are put together and projects are launched, all with the objective to make the university more sustainable. This office is also raising awareness among students and staff about the sustainable achievements and ambitions of the PMAS-AAUR.
