ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved further changes to the petrol relief scheme in light of feedback received from across the country.
Under the scheme, fuel subsidy of Rs100 per litre is being provided to owners of motorcycles, rickshaws and vehicles up to 800cc.
As per latest changes, motorcycles, Qingqi rickshaws and rickshaws purchasing less than five litres of petrol will also be eligible for a weekly discount of up to Rs500 through a single token.
One token will be issued each week, with a total of four tokens available during a month.
Under the existing arrangement, users of vehicles with engine capacity of up to 800cc will continue to receive a Rs100-per-litre discount on 10 litres of petrol every 10 days. Three such tokens will be issued during a month.
The prime minister had previously announced that registration messages for people eligible for the scheme would be free of charge.
He had also directed that motorcycles, rickshaws and Qingqi rickshaws up to 20 years old be included in the fuel relief programme. Implementation of the decision has begun.
According to the scheme’s updated eligibility criteria, motorcycles, rickshaws and Qingqi rickshaws registered after January 1, 2006, are eligible for registration.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is personally overseeing the implementation of the relief scheme and has directed authorities to expand its reach while ensuring that eligible beneficiaries receive the petrol subsidy conveniently and without disruption.
