ISLAMABAD – Petrol price jumped by Rs6.88 per litre, with new price set at Rs391.22 per litre, while High-Speed Diesel (HSD) has increased by Rs5.62, reaching Rs421.45 per litre. The new prices will come into effect from September 17.
With the latest increase, petrol is now just Rs8.78 away from the Rs400-per-litre milestone, a figure that once sounded outrageous but is increasingly looking like the next stop at the pump.
And for consumers hoping they might get a break after the previous increase, the wait was apparently rather optimistic. The latest hike comes just one day after another increase, giving motorists another reason to check their fuel gauge — and perhaps their bank balance — before starting the engine.

The government linked latest adjustment to movements in international crude oil and petroleum product prices. There is, however, an interesting twist in the global market. While Pakistan’s fuel prices are heading higher, international crude prices were moving in the opposite direction on Wednesday.
Saudi Arabia was reportedly offering additional crude cargoes to Asian refiners through ship-to-ship transfers near Oman’s Sohar port, adding to expectations of improved supply availability.
The latest increase is not just a number displayed at petrol stations. Petrol powers millions of cars, motorcycles, rickshaws and other vehicles, while diesel remains crucial for trucks, buses, freight operators and commercial activity. Any sustained rise in fuel prices can therefore work its way through transportation and operating costs, eventually reaching consumers in the form of higher expenses elsewhere.
With petrol now approaching Rs400 per litre and diesel already above Rs420, the latest increase adds another layer of pressure on households, commuters and businesses.
