Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa weather: Rains, heavy falls likely

PESHAWAR – Intermittent rains with isolated heavy falls are likely in Peshawar and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday evening/night, Tuesday and Wednesday.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), moist currents from the Arabian Sea are penetrating Pakistan. A westerly wave also prevails in the western and upper parts of the country.

Under these conditions, intermittent rains with isolated heavy falls are likely in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Buner, Shangla, Swat, Malakand, Peshawar, Nowshera, Swabi, Bajaur, Mardan, Kurram, Orakzai, Hangu, Kohat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan and Waziristan on Monday evening/night, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Heavy rains may generate flash floods in local nullahs/streams of Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Buner, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan and Galiyat till July 25.

Downpour may cause urban flooding in Nowshera and Peshawar. Landslides/mudslides may cause road closures in the vulnerable areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Heavy rains/windstorms and lightning may damage dilapidated buildings and structures like electric poles, billboards, vehicles and solar panels.

Peshawar’s maximum temperature is expected to remain between 39°C and 41°C on Tuesday and between 38°C and 40°C on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, hot and humid weather prevailed in Peshawar and most parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the last 24 hours. However, rains occurred in upper districts.

In Peshawar, the maximum temperature was recorded at 40°C. Relative humidity in the morning was recorded at 79 per cent.
