Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa weather; more rain, snowfall predicted

PESHAWAR – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted more rains with snowfall over mountains for Peshawar and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during this week.

As per the synoptic situation, a westerly wave is affecting western and upper parts of the country. It is likely to persist during next few days.

Under these conditions, rain with snowfall over mountains is likely in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Malakand, Abbottabad, Balakot, Mansehra, Haripur, Swabi, Peshawar, Mardan, Charsadda, Nowshera, Bajaur, Khyber, Kurram, Waziristan, Kohat, Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan on Wednesday night, Thursday and Friday.

Heavy rain/snowfall is likely in Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Malakand, Abbottabad, Balakot and Mansehra during the period.

Snowfall may affect the transportation on 31 January and 01 February. Tourists are advised to be cautious.

Peshawar’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 08-10 degrees Celsius on Thursday and 07-09 C on Friday.

Meanwhile, mainly cold and cloudy weather prevailed in most areas of the country during the last 24 hours.

However, rain with isolated snowfall occurred in parts of the province.

Kalam remained the coldest place in the country where mercury dropped 07 C below freezing.

In Islamabad, minimum temperature was recorded at 07 C. Relative humidity during the morning was recorded at 87 per cent.
