ISLAMABAD – The Islamabad Food Authority (IFA) has sealed two beverage facilities, Haideri Beverages and Beverages Plus in an area of the federal capital over alleged violation of food safety standards, it emerged on Friday.
The IFA in collaboration with the assistant commissioner conducted the raid in Humak Model Town to inspect the sites of the Pepsi’s distributors, reports said.
Reports indicated serious concerns about hygiene and ingredient quality at the sites.
During the visit, inspection teams reportedly discovered expired bags of sugar that was also affected by fungal contamination, which was suspected to be used in the preparation of soft drinks.
Officials recorded several breaches, including failure to follow previous directives, nearly 150 sugar sacks with altered expiry labels, insect presence on stored supplies, and improper storage with bags placed directly on the floor.
Samples of the sugar were collected for laboratory testing. Authorities sealed 54,874 sugar bags and locked the warehouses, suspending all production and sales activities until further notice.
